MEET AUAKE - POTTERY STUDIO

AUAKE [uh-weyk] is a functional homeware ceramics brand sustained in a minimalist way of living and considering the environment as a priority.

Based in Portugal since 2021.

Classes
Our classes are designed for anyone looking for a unique and enriching experience. Spend a day with us in the cultural landscape of Sintra, near Adraga Beach. Our pottery studio is nestled in the picturesque village of Almoçageme.

All handbuilding classes are led by Soraia and can be taught in English, Portuguese, or Spanish.

All wheel classes are led by Nuri and can be taught in English or Korean.

Handbuilding Classes
Regular price €45,00

Beginners pottery class for adults and teenagers (+15) with our without experience limited to a total of 6 attendees.

Choose your style:
Classic workshop or Workshop & wine

🥣 These classes assemble fundamental handbuilding techniques such as pinching, coiling and slab building. Guidance from start to finish of every small pieces (max. 3). Let’s express your creativity through the clay.

🥣 Your pieces will be ready for collection within a maximum of 8 weeks.

🥣We recommend signing all your pieces to ensure they can be clearly identified as yours and cannot be claimed by someone else.

🥣 After the class, please take photos of your creations. Then, 4 weeks later, contact us to book an appointment to collect your pieces or to arrange delivery with us (additional cost applies). We ship worldwide.

🥣 If we do not hear from you within this timeframe, we will unfortunately not be able to store your pieces any longer. Any uncollected items will be placed in a box at our door, free for local village residents to take.

🥣 For intermediate or advanced potters please reach out to us to discuss your requirements and book other sessions.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

• Clay, tools and supplies are provided.
• For Classic Workshop, we offer a coffee, latte or organic tea.
• For Workshop & Wines, a selection of Portuguese natural wines.
• Your pieces will be glazed by us and fired in our kiln.
   

  DURATION
  2 hours

  Classic Workshops are on weekends (morning and afternoon). For Workshops & Wines, after your purchase, we will send you an email to set up with you the day and the time slot of the session.

  CANCELATION POLICY
  By booking our class you will be agreeing to our cancellation policy, which requires 48 hours notice before the class starts. It is non-refundable but you may reschedule your session for another date.

Children Handbuilding Class
Regular price €45,00

Handbuilding ceramic classes available by reservation for children aged 6 to 15.
Sessions are limited to 6 participants to ensure personalized guidance. Larger groups can be accommodated for special occasions such as birthday celebrations.

This classes have an introduction to hand building techniques, they will make some small pieces of their choice and decorate them.

☀️ Once you have purchased your course, we will email you to arrange a timeslot with your desired dates and we will book you in. Weekdays and Sunday mornings are available.

Private Handbuilding Classes
Regular price €100,00

These classes are made for those who prefer to be alone or with people of their choice.

Sessions are limited to 6 participants to ensure personalized guidance. Larger groups can be accommodated for special occasions such as team-building events, anniversaries, retreats.
 

INFO
Private classes have an introduction to handbuilding techniques, you will make and decorate a piece of your choice such as a mug, vase or bowl.
All levels are welcome whether you are a total beginner or have made pottery before.

Resident Artist Subscription
Regular price €95,00

Our Resident Artist Subscription offers you the opportunity to further develop your work creations. To establish professional contacts in our space and community of like-minded individuals.

The residency at AUAKE includes:

• Brand new facility - interior designed for AUAKE Pottery Studio.
• Bring your own clay (high firing) or purchase from us.
• Many Tools for modeling and sculpting.
• Use of our Nabertherm kiln to fire your pieces (we will do it for you) - Add. costs for voluminous pieces (50€ bisque, 40€ glaze firing).
• Area for non-toxic glazes application: glaze your pieces yourself. Transparent, white glazes and engobes are provided.
• Advanced learning opportunities (more details upon request).
• Weekdays only, except Monday (weekends are reserved for group Workshops).
• We provide aprons but wear comfortable clothes you are okay getting clay on.
• Self-service coffee, latte and organic tea.
• Free high speed wifi.
• Connect your music via bluetooth to ours studio monitors speakers.
•  10% off in all our ceramics pieces in-store.

RESPONSABILITIES

Intensive Courses
Regular price €350,00

Handbuilding ceramics intensive courses are available to book for adult and teenagers from 16 years old.

These courses take place during six sessions of two hours each and allow you to have a complete summary of what is to be a ceramicist.
 

INFO
In this program we enroll:

• Quick theoretical introduction to the profession of ceramicist and process to make a cup with the pinching technique.
• How to make plates with the slab technique.
• Handbuilt a vase with the coil technique.
• Work with molds to do different size of bowls and trimming/finishing pieces.
• Reclaiming clay process.
• Engobe colors and glaze applications.
• How to load the kiln for bisque and glaze firing.
•  A summary of all techniques learned by creating the pieces of your choice.

Weekdays are available except Monday.
