Located in Lisbon, the Museu Nacional do Azulejo is dedicated to Portugal’s unique ceramic tile tradition.

This museum  , according to official information

will reopen as soon as possible after the renovation works now started under the Recovery and Resilience Plan. As was made public, the plan is expected to be completed by end of the first semester of 2026.

🏵️ It is housed in the former Madre de Deus Convent, founded in the 16th century.

🏵️The museum presents the evolution of azulejos from the 15th century to the present day.

🏵️Visitors can admire intricate tile panels showcasing religious, historical, and decorative themes.

One of the highlights is the large panoramic tile panel representing Lisbon before the 1755 earthquake.

🏵️The collection reflects influences from Moorish, Spanish, and Portuguese artistic traditions.

🏵️The museum also features a beautiful church richly decorated with gold carvings and tiles.

🏵️Walking through its cloisters offers a peaceful and atmospheric experience.

Closed: Mondays, January 1, Easter Sunday, May 1, December 25
